Thai massage combines deep tissue massage, acupressure, and stretching. It is significantly more dynamic than most classic forms of massage. Sometimes we call Thai massage “a lazy man’s yoga” because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Many people say Thai massage is like doing yoga without any work. The moves produce active muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure during treatment. People describe Thai massage as both relaxing and energizing.

How is it done?

You will be given a particular outfit (Thai “fisherman’s” pants and shirt) upon arrival at the spa. After you change and receive a complimentary foot bath, your therapist will take you to a room with a mattress on the floor. There is no use of oil or draping protocols in traditional Thai massage so that you will remain fully dressed.

Suppose it is your first Thai massage; we recommend communicating this to your therapist. She will start more gently! She will ask you if you have any health problems to ensure you don’t get hurt. You will lie down on a massage mattress, and the massage will begin, starting with your feet and working towards your head.

While undergoing a massage, try to relax as much as possible. Work with your therapist by synchronizing your breathing with the rhythm of the massage. For example, when she stretches a part of you, inhale as she does so, then exhale as she relaxes the tension. Your therapist will use her hands and forearms to apply firm pressure to your body. She may also use her elbows, knees, and feet.

The original Thai massage included having a masseuse walk on the subject’s back and pulling fingers, toes, and even hair. Your therapist may utilize these techniques based on your experience and the length of the massage you had reserved.
